Chip Carving Lap Desk - Front
The front is 1/2" Birch plywood 2 3/8" high by 10 3/8"
long. The pieces for the sides angle up from 2 1/4" high in the front
to 3 3/4" high at the rear. This gives a slope of 1 1/2" over
the 10" span. Since the top comes down at an angle as it meets the
top of the front, angle the top of the front slightly to match the angle
of the top. To cut this angle, I used a 1/4" spacer to raise the
bottom inside face of the front piece. Then I ran the top of the front
past a straight router bit, shaving off what was needed to create the
angle on the top of the front.
